Overview
The Youth Development Program has a lot of
fitness training involved which will ALL be soccer
orientated, i.e. We do not run the campers
around a field doing laps, that's for track and long
distance training. Our many fitness drills
imitate soccer running patterns which help to
prepare players become a lot more efficient come
game time.
Often when a player doesn't touch a ball for a few
days their touch becomes heavier than normal,
leading them to loose control and be dispossessed.
At the Youth Development Program players will do a a
lot of first touch and ball control drills to ensure
that their touch is the best it can be.
Another aspect of the Youth Development Program is a
player's decision making ability. Our first
step is to get playes' to make smart decisions,
followed by fast decisions. Often a player
with limited ability can become a great player by
making simple decisions quickly so that they don't
make things difficult for themselves. When a
player complicates his/her game trying things that
are beyond their level of play they often give the
ball away and make numerous errors.
Finally, we will cover the basics of shooting,
dribbling, receiving, heading and passing.
Players already have these skills by the high school
level, but we want to spend time refining and making
sure they are confident in their abilities to
perform.
